Atheists: if your child became addicted to scripture, would you put him in an alcohol and drug rehab program?

my child recently read the bible, and now he keeps walking around calling people "sinners ". he has slacked off on his studies, doesn't socialze anymore, has no friends, ditched his girlfriend so he can read the bible and was fired from his job for letting the bible interfere with his part time job. the only people he does socialize with are on the same kick and they get togetehr and read the bible and completely ignore the outside world. (get the point here?) actually sean, considering the "god delusion " is of much smaller length than the bible- i would be looking for a mental hospital instead of drug rehab facility for that child. dawkins has some points but he is not the "picture child " for atheists you theists like to make him out to be. basically the scenario you pointed out is someone reading the same words, over and over and over and over again- that shows psycotic obsession not addiction. good point tammy b- also 12 steps are a load of bunk, the success rate for rehabilitation is the same as if you quit on your own. "giving yourself over to a higher power " rhetoric should be banned or at least the program must be made to publicly admit that they are pushing religion. even if it is "neutral " religion.

It's sad that he'd let his life be ruined so much by the 'opiate of the masses'

Put him in a room full of about 100 or more bibles and don't let him out until he smokes them all. That'll bloody show him.

Yea the same can be said for a kid who reads the God Delusion obsessively.

I would ground him from his bible friends until he gets his life back together. I would also punish him for calling people sinners. If none of that works, I would take him to a therapist. Addiction is addiction, and needs to be dealt with as such.

I get your point. But keep him out of the rehabs...they are full of christians especially the 12 step program and AA. My brother has been several times and he has changed now.

Very sad to try to make a point in such a fashion by the use of mockery. There are people out there that have used such an idea as a weapon...( Christians are crazy and need psychological counseling, etc.) It is labeled as an "unknown hate crime "...false allegations are called into child protective services and families disappear... Has nothing to do with cults or anything as one would expect; just plain church going folk and some nut case decides they are a good target...
